Promoting Ethanol for Climate Goals: Growth Energy
Here is an interview by Successful Farming, with Emily Skor, CEO of Growth Energy. Here are some key points from the interview:
-
Growth Energy is promoting higher blends of low-carbon ethanol, such as E-15, and emphasizing ethanol's environmental advantages over gasoline.
-
The UK’s introduction of E-10 fuel aims to offer cleaner emissions and affordable fuel, supported by Growth Energy’s "Get Biofuel" campaign.
-
Ethanol provides significant benefits for farmers, offering a premium for low-carbon fuel and supporting the corn market.
Here are some initiatives and developments being done for lowering carbon emissions with ethanol:
- India is heavily investing to increase ethanol production, as was seen with the doubling of ethanol blending within 2 years till 2023, with a goal of reaching 20% blending with gasoline by 2025. This target requires India to have a ethanol producing capacity of 1700 crore liters.
- The U.S. and Brazil has had a memorandum of understanding from 2007 to advance cooperation on biofuels, including ethanol. Brazil is one of the largest export destinations for U.S. ethanol, with 76 million gallons purchased in 2021 valued at $153 million.
